All About the Frames

What exactly is a Stitchfetti frame?

Stitchfetti frames combine your stitching surface and your finished frame into one piece. Instead of stitching on fabric and then figuring out how to mount and frame your project afterward, you stitch directly onto your Stitchfetti frame.

Once you finish your last stitch, your project is already framed and ready to display!

What Aida count are Stitchfetti frames?

Our Stitchfetti frames feature a 14-count stitching grid, one of the most commonly used sizes in traditional cross stitch.

Is the stitching area actual fabric?

Nope! The stitching area is actually part of the 3D-printed frame itself.

Instead of traditional fabric, your frame has a high-quality built-in stitching grid. We actually find that the structured grid makes controlling your tension much easier than traditional Aida fabric because the stitching surface stays perfectly structured while you work.

Do I have to frame my project when I'm finished?

Nope! That's one of our favorite things about Stitchfetti. Your stitching area and frame are all one piece, so when you finish your last stitch, your project is already framed and ready to enjoy.

Do I need to put anything on the back when I'm finished?

No! There's no backing, mounting, gluing, stretching or additional finishing required.

As soon as you tie off your last stitch, your Stitchfetti frame is ready to hang on the wall or add to your display.

Can I see the thread on the back of the frame?

Yes. Stitchfetti frames have an open back, so if you flip your frame over, you'll be able to see the back of your stitching.

Don't worry — your back absolutely does not have to be perfect! The frame helps conceal the stitching when your finished piece is displayed.

How do I start and finish my thread?

You can start and finish your floss just like you would with traditional cross stitch.

One of our favorite ways to begin is the loop method. When you're finished with a strand, you can secure it by weaving the end underneath several of your existing stitches on the back.

What is the loop method?

The loop method is an easy, knot-free way to start when you're stitching with two strands of floss.

Cut one longer strand of floss and fold it in half. Thread the two loose ends through your needle, leaving a loop at the opposite end. Start your first stitch while keeping that loop accessible on the back of your frame, then pass your needle through the loop before tightening.

Your floss is now securely anchored without needing a knot.

Can I use knots on the back?

Definitely! You can use knots on the back of your Stitchfetti frame if that's the method you prefer.

For a flatter and cleaner back, you can also weave the ends of your floss underneath your existing stitches.

Can I remove stitches if I make a mistake?

Absolutely. Carefully remove the incorrect stitches with your needle and stitch the area again. Mistakes are part of stitching — no worries!

How do I hang my Stitchfetti frame?

Stitchfetti frames have a built-in area that allows you to hang your finished piece using a small nail.

You can also use removable adhesive wall-hanging products such as Command Strips if you'd rather avoid putting a nail in your wall. Always follow the adhesive manufacturer's directions for your wall surface.

Can my Stitchfetti frame stand on a shelf instead of hanging?

Yes! Stitchfetti frames look adorable as shelf decor. Simply lean your finished frame against the wall, books or another decorative object for an easy shelf display.

Can I paint or customize my Stitchfetti frame?

Absolutely! Customizing your frame can be such a fun way to make your finished piece even more unique.

Make sure you use a paint that is compatible with plastic. Painting, gluing or otherwise altering your frame is done at your own risk, and we can't guarantee the product after it has been modified.

Why does my frame have small layer lines?

Every Stitchfetti frame is individually 3D printed, so you may notice tiny layer lines or slight variations from one frame to another.

These are a natural part of the 3D-printing process and do not affect the functionality of your frame.

I've never cross-stitched before. Can I still use Stitchfetti?

Absolutely! Stitchfetti is a great way to try cross stitch for the first time.

You don't have to worry about hoops, stretching fabric, mounting your finished project or finding the perfect frame afterward. Just follow your pattern one little X at a time.

What is cross stitch?

Cross stitch is a form of embroidery created primarily with little X-shaped stitches. Each square on your pattern corresponds to a square on your stitching grid.

What does 14-count mean?

14-count means there are approximately 14 stitch spaces per inch. It's one of the most commonly used cross-stitch counts and gives you a great combination of detail and comfortable stitching.

What kind of thread do I need?

Standard six-strand embroidery floss works perfectly with Stitchfetti frames.

For a 14-count stitching grid, two strands of embroidery floss are most commonly used.

Can I use DMC embroidery floss?

Absolutely! Standard DMC six-strand embroidery floss works beautifully with Stitchfetti frames.

Can I use other brands of embroidery floss?

Yes. Most standard six-strand cotton embroidery floss brands will work perfectly.

Why does embroidery floss have six strands?

A standard skein of embroidery floss is made up of six individual strands twisted together.

For most 14-count cross stitching, you'll separate the floss and stitch using two strands at a time.

What type of needle should I use?

A tapestry needle works best for cross stitch because its blunt tip is designed to pass through the existing stitching holes rather than pierce the material.

How do I read a cross-stitch pattern?

Every square on your pattern represents one stitch. The color or symbol inside the square tells you which floss color to use.

Simply recreate the chart square by square on your Stitchfetti stitching grid.

Does the direction of my stitches matter?

For the cleanest finished look, try to keep all your stitches traveling in the same direction.

For example, make every bottom half of your X in one direction and every top half in the opposite direction.

Do I need an embroidery hoop?

Nope! No hoop is required. Your Stitchfetti frame keeps the entire stitching surface structured and ready to work on.

Do I need to wash, iron, stretch or mount my finished project?

Nope! Once you've finished stitching and secured your floss, your project is ready to display.

No ironing, stretching, mounting, gluing or traditional framing required.

What's in a Stitchfetti Kit?

What comes in a Stitchfetti kit?

Your Stitchfetti kit includes your stitchable frame, cross-stitch pattern, embroidery floss and needle — everything you need to get stitching!

How is my pattern included?

Every kit includes a printed copy of your pattern, along with a QR code that gives you access to a digital version.

Is a needle included?

Yes! Every Stitchfetti kit includes a needle.

Is the embroidery floss pre-cut?

No. Your embroidery floss will come as full skeins so you can cut your floss to your preferred working length as you stitch.

Will I receive enough floss to complete my project?

Yes! Your kit will include the floss needed to complete the included Stitchfetti design.

Are Stitchfetti kits beginner friendly?

Definitely! They're designed to eliminate many of the steps that can make traditional cross stitching feel intimidating.

There's no hoop setup, fabric mounting or framing afterward.

Blank Frames + Your Own Designs

Can I purchase just the frame?

Absolutely! Stitchfetti frames are available separately so you can stitch your own designs and patterns.

Can I use a cross-stitch pattern I already own?

Yes! As long as the pattern fits within the available stitch dimensions of your chosen frame, you can use your own pattern.

Where can I find the stitch dimensions of my frame?

The width and height of the usable stitching area will be listed in each individual frame's product description.

Can I design my own pattern?

Absolutely! As long as you can chart your design onto a cross-stitch grid and it fits within the stitchable area of your frame, you can stitch it.
